If you Google Facebook Places this afternoon, you’ll find that a bunch of journalists have misinterpreted the news.

Here’s what Facebook actually said: here and here. MG Siegler and Ian Paul did a great job covering it, but many other news organizations got it wrong.

Facebook is not axe-ing Places. Facebook is adding the ability for you to add location to almost everything from your regular computer. This functionality relies on Places.
