More news on Facebook this week, more confusion.
Facebook is killing off their Daily Deals offering.
But they’re keeping their Check-In Deals program.
I thought they had a great chance to beat Groupon, but perhaps they don’t believe in the daily deals model at all. It remains to be seen if Groupon’s model is sustainable, and at last report they were losing money. Oh and they have what, a mere 600 competitors? Facebook is pretty smart, so perhaps it only took them four months to see that even their social graph couldn’t save the daily deals approach.
The Facebook Check-In Deals program, which hopefully will go self-serve soon, has a lot of potential. Physical stores aren’t going away anytime soon, so integration of web, mobile and bricks-n-mortar makes sense. You can already get Facebook Credits for free by checking in to certain stores.
One thing’s for sure: life working with Facebook is never boring.
